When looking for new items to use for decorating, I sometimes look past what they were really used for originally. I look more for texture and color. Take an old wooden chair, most are small and wobbly, and really not functional as a comfortable chair any more. I take advantage of these inexpensive pieces and use them more as art or to high light something special. Why not hang a picture on the back, or hang the chair on a wall and use it as a shelf. In my home I just use chairs hanging on the wall as pieces of art. So don't be afraid to reach beyond and find new uses for old things. Be creative. TJW
Walls
just aren't for pictures or paintings anymore. I love the ocean and try to
get to Maine as often as I can. At my house in Vermont I have filled every
nook and cranny with paintings of the ocean. I love hanging them on cupboard
doors and even open front cupboards. This layering technique is one of my
favorite ways to decorate and this idea really creates drama and highlights your
art. Do the unexpected when it comes to home decorating. TJW
